Landworks Studio is all about the people. We are passionate about our profession and our communities. This past Friday, Rachel Fox, participated in the Explore Design Program. Explore Design encourages a design professionals to spend time working alongside students in the Kansas City area. Landscape architects, architects, urban designers, and graphic designers came together to work with sophomores and juniors from Central Academy of Excellence. The students worked on redesigning their school, while the design professionals offered support and guidance. It was amazing to see these young men and women so engaged and excited about their environment. The students had such great ideas and it was amazing to see them take ownership of their designs. Rachel worked alongside “Team Getaway” to help facilitate the design of a student lounge, pedestrian bridge, and locker room. After the design charrette the students presented their ideas to their classmates, the design professionals, and a panel of judges. Each group received poignant feedback and competed for the best project. While “Team Getaway” did not take home the trophy, they did a great problem solving, worked well together, and presented strongly. Not only was it amazing to work alongside the students, but it was so encouraging to see their teacher’s enthusiasm and commitment. Overall the Explore Design Program was a great opportunity to reconnect with the community. Regardless of what profession these young scholars choose, they have the attitude, tools, and ability to do amazing things.
