The University of Kansas submitted a grant application through KDHE for funds to replace parking lot 54 just north of Allen Fieldhouse on KU’s Campus.  The program requirements included pervious pavement, a 100% retention of stormwater runoff, and improvements to ADA accessibility and pedestrian connections.  In addition, the plant materials specified had to be native to the region.

Our design team developed  a plan to store rainwater beneath the pavement and circulate it to the landscape islands for additional retention and irrigation.  A rain garden was also designed along Irving Hill Road at the parking lot entrance to store some additional water from a nearby inlet.  Landworks Studio staff participated in the volunteer planting efforts for the rain garden in the fall of 2013.
