Landworks Studio was part of the design team selected to plan and design a new police station for the City of Council Bluffs. Our firm was responsible for coordinating with the architect and civil engineer on overall site design, managing all planting and irrigation design, and selecting site furnishings for outdoor amenity areas. The facility was the first ever designed for sole use by the city’s police department and was funded by a bond referendum with strong voter support. After evaluating multiple sites, the City chose one with prominent visibility but which also featured over 45 feet of elevation change. Landworks developed ground cover options and turf specifications to minimize erosion on the hillsides but sill maintain site drainage. We went even further and developed an overall plant palette designed to meet not only the City’s goals for sustainability but also their expectation that this building appear welcoming and approachable to the public. Lastly, we coordinated with the architect to provide site flighting recommendations for the front entryway and site furnishing recommendations for an officer/staff patio in the back. The end result is a site that not only provides commanding views but places from which the employees can enjoy them.
