Working with Patrick Mahomes’ 15 and the Mahomies Foundation and the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department, Landworks Studio, teamed with Gunter Construction on this all inclusive design-build project. The first phase of improvements to help transform Martin Luther King Jr. Square Park will provide civil rights education and a unique, safe place for children of all abilities to play together. Landworks Studio staff also worked side-by-side with the playground manufacturer, Kompan, on the playground design, layout and play components, to not only ensure that the pieces that have been selected encourage accessibility and are inclusive for children with all physical and mental abilities, but are durable for longevity and easy to maintain by City staff. The destination playground features a large, custom net play structure, multiple swings, musical instruments, a small shade structure, a wheelchair accessible spinner and a synthetic turf mound with climbing features and a wide hill slide. This park renovation is a one-of-a-kind asset for children and families in the neighborhood.
