Truman Road is a key east/west connection through downtown Independence from Interstate 435 or US 291. Our project included the blocks from Osage Street to Noland Road. Concerns addressed in this area included historical signage markers, grade changes and storm water capture from roadways and parking lots. The opportunity to collect and filter runoff before it was captured in an inadequate pipe system offered some unique and innovative design options. A small rain garden, retaining walls, fencing and native plant materials are all included in these five high profile blocks. Landworks Studio staff had the opportunity to coordinate with downtown organizations to develop a maintainable and desirable plan for all interested parties.
