Landworks Studio collaborated with McClure Engineering and Custom Engineering to design and develop pickleball court facilities for two parks in Kansas City, Missouri - Hodge Park and Platte Purchase Park. As the popularity of pickleball continues to rise, these new courts serve as a valuable addition to the community, offering expanded recreational opportunities.
The design teams approach was to prioritize minimal disruption to the existing site conditions while also selecting the best location for the courts within the park. By working with the natural topography and integrating the parks’ existing infrastructure, the team created functional and engaging spaces that maintain the integrity of each park while also enhancing user experience. The design features include individually fenced courts with gates for access control, as well as shade structures and seating areas along the central walkway for resting, waiting, and cheering. These elements foster a welcoming environment, ensuring the courts serve both active players and spectators alike.
