Landworks Studio was selected by the City of Olathe to master plan, design, and administer improvements to this large active park that serves a multitude of users. Prairie Center Park was first developed by the city in the 1980’s on property adjacent to a decommissioned landfill. It provides space for 8 baseball diamonds, 10 multi-purpose rectangular fields, 2 playgrounds, disc golf course, and connections to the Rolling Ridge Trail.
The scope of work on this project entailed a brief schematic design phase focused on helping city staff prioritize potential improvements across the park as well as design development and construction documentation of the selected improvements. Ultimately, the City chose to prioritize a large parking expansion, new pickleball courts, and ball diamond concourse repair in the initial stage. Future improvements in the next phase will include a new vehicular entrance on the west side of the park, as well as an additional restroom and picnic shelter adjacent to pickleball courts. Landworks Studio led a multi-disciplinary design team through the process, managing communication with city staff, facilitating community engagement, and administering the construction of all improvements.
